If you are installing corrugated siding, chances are you’ll need to install trim around a corrugated doorway. To do so, you use either head trim or jamb trim.

What Is The Difference Between Head Trim And Jamb Trim?
Head trim and jamb trim look very similar. All come with color on the outside and primer on the inside. But the main difference is that jamb trim comes with a return on the hem side helping conceal any primer from being seen when installing vertical corrugated siding.
Jamb is the perfect choice for vertical siding, but you have to plan your layout properly. If the high seam lands where the return of the trim is located, the return will prevent the panel from inserting into the trim. You’ll need to use head trim instead or you can use wise or duckbill clamps to clamp down the hem leg of the trim.
If running corrugated panels horizontally, jamb trim can’t be used because the return leg will prevent high seams from fully inserting into the trim.
How To Install Metal Door Trim
- Start by measuring the length needed by the sides of the door. Measure and mark the distance on all sides of your trim.
- Using a speed square, mark a 45 degree line on the face side of the trim from the first mark. From this mark, draw a line around all sides of the trim.
- Next, square cut trim at this mark.
- Cut out the side of your trim up to the first mark
- Slightly angle cut sides to remove any burs that occurred.
- Repeat for the opposite side of your door.
- Fasten the trim using pancake 12” on center.
How To Prepare The Top Side Of The Trim
- Measure distance between two inner sides of the vertical trim you just installed.
- On one end, mark a 45 degree line on the face side of the head trim. Where that ends, mark a straight line on the sides of your trim.
- Using metal cutting snips, put a 45 degree mark on the face side of your trim.
- Notch cut a tab on the side of your trim up to your mark.
- From this line measure out the inner distance between your two inner sides of your vertical trim.
- Using a speed square, make a 45 degree mark at the face side of the trim.
- From this point, make a mark across each side of the trim. Square cut your trim at this mark.
- Notch cut a tab at the side of your trim up to your mark.
- Cut the 45 degree mark on the face side of your trim.
- Hand seam closed the return on the top section of trim if dealing with jamb trim.
- Slightly pry open the outer hem on a 45 degree cut on the face side of your trim.
- Place head trim into position making sure it lays on top of vertical trim.
- Bend head trim tabs down 90 degrees.
- Fasten the head trim with pancake screws 12” on center.
